Thursday 27/09/18 6pm

Tech study 2 start working each section up to tempo.

London Town: great progress made this week with creating a clean phrased feel to the grooves and fills. Hold on to this moving forward. See if you can polish the transition from page 1 to page 2.

Thursday 27/09/18 5pm

Time to start using the triplet exercises just on the snare again but now pushing the tempo up to the 150-170 range.

You played the first page of no one knows well this week. The bridge is coming together but now I would like you to start working on playing each section together.

Thursday 27/09/18 4:30pm

Good to meet you today. Nice work on the chart for smooth from the RS grade 3 book.  Re-cap the first fill (listen to the original if you need to).
Have a look at the rest of the sheet and see if anything jumps out you want to go over next lesson.

Thursday 27/09/18 4pm

Practice the swing independence ex's from beyond bop. Use the slow swing track as a backing. Are your time and play with a strong feel fir the 1/4 note.

Also play through the first 4 bars of window seat. Listen to the original and see if you can emulate the swing on the hi-hat and match it with the ghost notes on the share and bass drum.

Thursday 27/09/18 3pm

Work through the phrases from syncopation ex 1-5 around the kit. Aim for strong bass drums and even stickings.
When this this is comfortable try young each one as a one bar fill. Focus on having an even transition between your bar of groove and your fill.

I Left you with 4 grooves to work on fir next lesson. Overall your reading and dexterity are very good. Start each groove slowly focusing on a really secure sound and feel and this will give you the chance to really to embed each pattern in your coordination.

Thursday 20/09/18 5pm

Warm up with the excercises from last week but now try playing the triplet phrases around the drums in pairs. See video in your phone

Below is the first three lines of the cgirus for no one knows. Start working on these separately and then when you are confident start combining them.

20/09/18 4pm

Drags looking much more secure this week. Try to play the ex all rh drags then all left hand drags. Don't worry too much if they sound a little untidy to begin with. Once the mechanics are comfortable you can start to revive the technique and sound.
Have a play along to the track I emailed you. Focus on playing good swing time to start then see if you can add in some snare drums to "comp" along with the song.

Thursday 3:30pm

Here are the fill phrases you looked at today. Practice as a warm up first.
Then try to incorporate as both 8th note and 16th note fills

Thursday 13/09/18 7pm

Drags ex watch out for your left thumb position!

Use the ex below to work on your left foot coordination for the ride groove on page 2

Thursday 13/09/18 6pm

Practice the intro fill for ex no 1 and the fill in bar 5. Once they feel comfortable slowly work on playing them from memory.
Also the reverse para diddle in Barr 10. If you need a reminder of how it should sound and feel check out Tony Allen on spotify.

London Town: tidy up the grooves on the first page. You can play all the parts for this but now I want you to focus on making it feel solid and accurate.

Thursday 13/09/18 5pm

Triplet stucking ex. Pick 1 pattern and work on accuracy and flow. Don't hit harder as you speed up.

Also the fills for the first chorus of no one knows:

And then practice the intro and first groove to the track:

13/09/18 Thursday 4pm

Ex 1 from the rudimental ritual 1/4 nite drags over the alternating foot pattern.

Practice swing time with 1/4 notes and up beat 8ths in the left hand. Take your time and try to "hear" each ex as you play it!
