The second sticking needs to be practiced much slower with an emphasis on the correct mechanics.

Tech work: take the 5 stroke sticking. Explore by moving the accents over different voices on the kit also take the right hand fir a walk! 

Have a go at coming up with "hit" on a brat if a bar. Work out a set up (jumping off point) and experiment with voicings. 

Hit me: to the track sounding good. The fills on the furst two pages need a little tidying but overall sound good. Have a go up to section E for next week.

8th nioe hi-hat with left foot on first page. Keep the closing of the hi-hat crisp and secure. 
See if you can work in the low rim shot technique as well

A relaxed bounce catch motion on the snare worked really well for you today!

Keep working on the tom groove from last lesson. This was sounding much more secure this week. Don't be afraid to increase the tempo a little. Bring the bass drum in from the start! 

Here is the new groove you played today. Start with the second bar. As always start slow and increase the tempo as your confidence grows.

The solo section has some really nice ideas coming through. Spend some refining a little to add clarity and expression!

Then applied it as a triplet, 8th note and 16th note fill. 

Grade 2: y'all should be ready for the acoustic kit next week! If you are unsure of any parts make a nite and we will start with them next week.

Grade 3: up to the outdo if fall out should be ready for the acoustic kit next week. For some of yo pu that will mean some serious practice!

Warm up ex 1-3 using sextuplet sticking. Play all the accents on the rights hand. When comfortable try varying the voicing over the toms.

Warm up: paradiddlediddle sextuplet sticking to practice. Your double strokes especially with the left hand really started to come together with this excercise. Trust that you can do it!

London Town: so go groove needs shaping now! This means adding a but if weight to the bass drum and snare drum and a crisp definition between the bell and bow of the ride. 

Tech study 1: practice the seven stroke roll section in bar 10. If you need to use the paradiddle diddle sticking to help establish your technique.

Warm up: linear triplet sextuplets (RLB) 85-110bpm would be a good starting point. Aim for a clean transition and make sure the bass drum is evenly placed and the sound has the same intensity as your hands. 

Lead sheet: section c on the second page, is starting to come together for you. Try to set clear progressive goals as you practice through out the week. I would start working on each line separately to begin with. Work to a click and work on a clean execution. Then see if you can memorise each line and ficus in the sound. Next practice you might work on combining the lines together.

This week you played the first part of the instrumental break really well. Remember your aiming for beat three in bar four as your jumping off point into the fill. Go over the last bar a few times before you piece the whole section together

S: London Town: the songo groove is sounding much stronger. Focus on playing once but really committing to the overall feel of the groove as thus will help you make it feel convincing and secure to the track! See if you can get two confident reps by Thursday.

Practice the exercise below to a track or to a metronome. When it feels comfortable try varying the bass drum and snare drum pattern and add some fills to your transitions

Grade 3: the double time section at before e needs to be learned. Don't worry too much about the tempo but aim for smooth control and an even feel through out. Try and memorise the 4 bar phrase starting at E.

Take the first line and try to memorise it. This will help you listen to what you're playing and hear the phrase. 

Dark matter: this week break down the piece into its component sections and work on each one slowly. You can okay the grooves for each one but now I would suggest you start finessing how you play each part. Have a look at how you can use your mechanics to help with the coordination especially when there are lots of ghost notes.

The freebound exercise; let the stick bounce as many times as possible holding it between your thumb and first finger. 
Bounce catch; drop the stick onto the drum and let it bounce twice, closing your back fingers after the third note to stop the stick bouncing any more. 

Smooth: 
Bar 5, bar 13 bar 21 should be your warm up for the piece. Start slow aiming fur solid feel and a clean sound. 
Bar 30: start playing on a closed hi-hat. Play through to the end of bar 31. Taking care to focus on accuracy and control!

Dora and bootsy: intro much better this week. The open hi-hats were in the correct places and felt much more controlled. The groove in the first bar of the second line still needs some work. Go through it with out the track making sure you are reading the snare drum and bass drum part properly. 


For you: you can play this well to the track. Your challenge this week us go through section B and D without the track really making sure you are reading the notes super carefully.
