Thursday 12/05/18 6pm

Tripple paradiddle ex around the kit!
The main groove to ex 2 using the triple paradiddle. Remember keep the hi-hat nice and subtle and try to play the whole bar as a phrase!
Finish the fill in bar 16 of London Town!

Thursday 12/07/18 5:30pm

Linear fill from last week is sounding secure. Have a go now at trying to use it as fill of some backing tracks, watch that you start on the correct hand!

Use the "bonham triplet" ex in your book to practice the sticking for next week. When your feeling confident have a go at playing one bar as triplets and one bar double time!!

Thursday 12/05/18 5pm

Keep looking at the warm up from last week. This was much more controlled but now needs to sound more relaxed!

Here is the intro fill for "smells like teen spirit"

See if you can combine it with the groove for next lesson. Some serious practice please!

Thursday 12/07/18 4:30pm

Excellent work on the 16th nite bass drum doubles.
Practice the groove to get out of my life but see if you can now replicate the swing in the bass drum pattern and reliably play the 16th note double at the end of the bar.
Below is another 16th bass drum variation to practice and groove to dani California by the RHCP

Monday 09/07/18 7pm

Above as groove using down beat doubles on the bass drum. Thus can be more tricky than up beat doubles so take your time. Remember you can only work on coordination when you are relaxed!

Below is the groove to "dani California" by the Red hot chilli peppers. Listen to the placement and slight swing to the groove.

Monday 09/07/18 6:30pm

Warm up this week ex 11,12 and 13. Slow to medium tempo and 10-15 bars per exercise.

Below are the two grooves we looked at. The top one with a slightly open hi-hat and the bottom one with a closed hi-hat. Play each one separately first. 4-10 bars at a time. Stay relaxed and thinks out your doubts!
See if you can transition between the two. Start with one bar of one straight into the second groove.

Monday 9/07/18: 6pm

Today we had a go at playing to up town funk but playing around with the feel. So pushing a head or pkaying behind the beat.
Also try playing a few of your favourite funk grooves but try swinging the bass drum patten to change the feel.

Monday 09/07/18 4:15pm

Dora and bootsy: your job for this week is to polish any fills or transitions that you are not 100% with. Remember we are aiming for first time every time, and you should have a tight sound and solid feel.

For you: this week we played this without the sheet music. This is a great way to really memorise the form of the track, focus on your sound and feel confident that you can get to the end if the track. If you make a mistake keep playing, improvise if you want to and have fun.

Uptown funk: up to the last chorus was looking great! We will finish the outro groove next week!

Thursday 05/06/18 5:30pm

Great playing tipo the backing tracks this week.
Below are two developments of the linear fill sticking from last week.
Aim for 19-15 reps of each one to get familiar with the sticking/ phrasing.
Then work in some different voicings.

Thurs 05/07/18 4.30pm

A new coordination ex to work on double bass drums thus week, focusing on down beat double strokes
Get out if my life woman was really nice this week. You need to make sure you play the 16th note bass drum pattern over the bar line on the a of beat 4!

Re-cap reggae muffin for next week!

Thursday 05/07/18 4pm

Well done with the 5:3 combination from last week!
Here is a 4:2 combination to look at applying the same principles!
Also a groove using at RLB linear pattern in context.
